Clarington Fall Programs Open for Registration Aug. 26

Clarington Fall Programs are returning with a wide range of activities for children, teens, adults and families as Clarington Library, Museums and Archives prepares to open registration for its fall season.

Registration for most library and museum programs opens Aug. 26, giving residents access to activities ranging from Halloween events and babysitting courses to crafts, STEM programming and book clubs.

The lineup includes programming at library branches and museum locations throughout the municipality, including Newcastle, Courtice and the Sarah Jane Williams Museum.

With activities designed for several age groups and interests, the fall schedule offers residents another option for local recreation and educational programming as the school year begins.

Halloween Events Planned at Sarah Jane Williams Museum

Residents looking for seasonal activities will find several Halloween-themed events on the schedule.

The Sarah Jane Williams Museum will host a Paranormal Craft Night on Oct. 8.

Weekly Spirit Walks are also scheduled to begin Oct. 15.

These events add a heritage and seasonal component to the Clarington Fall Programs lineup, combining museum programming with Halloween-themed activities.

The Spirit Walks are expected to run weekly, providing residents with multiple opportunities to participate during the fall season.

Babysitting Courses Coming to Newcastle and Courtice

Children and teens interested in learning babysitting skills can take part in courses offered with React Right Safety Services.

One session is scheduled for Sept. 26 at Newcastle Library.

A second course will take place on Nov. 21 at Courtice Library.

The courses are intended to help young participants build the practical skills needed to babysit safely and responsibly.

For families with teens interested in taking on babysitting work, the program provides a structured learning opportunity close to home.

Craft Programs Cover Knitting, Crochet and More

Crafting is another major part of the fall schedule.

Programs include:

  • Learn to Knit
  • Learn to Crochet
  • Stick It! Custom Sticker Making
  • Monster Stuffies
  • Mindful Doodling

The range of activities gives residents an opportunity to try new creative skills or build on existing interests.

Some programs are designed for younger participants while others are more suitable for teens or adults.

STEM Activities Include Coding and 3D Modelling

The Clarington Fall Programs lineup also includes several STEM-focused opportunities.

A Game Makers Club will begin Nov. 4 and run weekly.

Participants interested in robotics and coding can take part in Lego Spike on Sept. 15, which combines building challenges with technology-based learning.

A 3D Modelling program is scheduled for Oct. 14.

These programs provide hands-on learning opportunities outside the classroom and can help participants build familiarity with coding, robotics, design and creative problem-solving.

Book Clubs Available for Adults and Kids

Book clubs are another part of the fall schedule, and registration for some of these programs is already open.

Adult selections include titles such as:

  • Margo’s Got Money Troubles
  • The Magic Strings of Frankie Presto
  • Hidden Valley Road
  • Circe
  • Finding Flora
  • Braiding Sweetgrass

Children’s selections include:

  • The Superteacher Project
  • Alice Fleck’s Recipes for Disaster
  • Belly Up

The variety of titles gives readers several options depending on age group and reading interests.

Registration Opens Aug. 26

Residents interested in the Clarington Fall Programs should note that registration for the broader fall library and museum schedule opens Aug. 26.

Some book clubs are already accepting registrations.

Programs may have limited capacity, so residents interested in specific activities may want to review the schedule before registration opens.

The fall lineup adds to Clarington’s wider recreation and community programming, offering options focused on education, creativity, social activities and seasonal events.

From learning how to babysit safely to experimenting with robotics or joining a book club, the schedule includes activities for a wide range of residents.
