The Oshawa Generals finished their three-game weekend with a 2-1 home loss to the Kitchener Rangers on Sunday, October 18, at the Tribute Communities Centre.

Onni Kalto scored late in the third period to give Oshawa a chance to recover, but the Generals could not find an equalizer. The defeat was their third in three days, following overtime losses in Kingston and Ottawa.

Rangers build a two-goal lead

Neither team scored in the opening period. Kitchener broke through at 14:22 of the second when Jack LaBrash redirected a shot by Avry Anstis for his first goal of the season, according to the Rangers’ official game report.

Tanner Lam added his sixth goal of the season early in the third period to make it 2-0. The Generals’ recap says the play required a review before the goal was confirmed.

Kalto answered with 2:26 left in regulation, finishing a pass from Tyler Hinde for his third goal of the season. That brought the home side within one, but Kitchener held its advantage through the closing minutes.

Goalies keep the score close

Both clubs recorded 22 shots. Jason Schaubel stopped 21 for Kitchener, while Matthew Humphries made 20 saves for Oshawa. Neither team converted on the power play: the Rangers went 0-for-2 and the Generals went 0-for-1.

The result leaves the Oshawa Generals with a 4-6-2-0 record, according to the Ontario Hockey League’s Sunday highlights report. The preceding losses were 5-4 in overtime at Kingston on October 16 and 3-2 in overtime at Ottawa on October 17; Sunday’s game was decided in regulation.

Peterborough is next

Oshawa’s next game is on the road against the Peterborough Petes on Thursday, October 22. Puck drop at the Peterborough Memorial Centre is scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
