St. Wilfrid Learning Display Celebrates Different Strengths

A St. Wilfrid learning display is highlighting students’ individual strengths and the different ways they learn during Learning Disabilities Awareness Month.

In an October 16 report, the Durham Catholic District School Board said students at St. Wilfrid Catholic School created a collaborative bulletin board called “Different Brains, Bright Futures.”

Each student completed the prompt “I learn best…” and described strategies that help them succeed. Examples included pictures, hands-on activities, listening and technology.

The display brings those contributions together so the school community can recognize that students do not all approach learning in the same way. The board described the project as a celebration of different strengths, talents and perspectives.

The activity also drew on a passage from 1 Corinthians about different gifts and the same Spirit. That faith connection formed part of the school’s explanation of why each learner’s contributions matter.

The board’s report documents a classroom-community activity, not a new diagnostic service or a change to special-education eligibility. It does not provide attendance numbers or announce additional program funding.

The verified news is the students’ shared display and the learning strategies they contributed. The project gives a concrete example of how the school is marking the awareness month without assuming that every participant has a diagnosed learning disability.
