The fourth annual Durham Region Volunteer Fair will bring more than 40 community organizations to Bowmanville on Wednesday, November 4.
The free event is scheduled from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Garnet B. Rickard Recreation Complex, 2440 Durham Regional Highway 2. It is open to people of all ages, including high school students seeking volunteer hours, working adults and retirees looking for ways to support local causes.
Community Care Durham and the Durham Region Association for Volunteer Administration are co-hosting the fair. Organizers say visitors will be able to speak directly with participating groups and compare opportunities in health care, social services, recreation, conservation, arts, emergency support and other community programs.
The current participant list includes Alzheimer Society Durham Region, Autism Home Base, Big Brothers Big Sisters of South Durham and Northumberland, Central Lake Ontario Conservation Authority, Durham Children’s Aid Society, Feed the Need in Durham, Girls Inc. Durham, Lakeridge Health Volunteer Resources, MADD’s Durham Region chapter, Ontario Shores Centre for Mental Health Sciences and Victim Services Durham Region.
Municipal and community organizations such as the City of Pickering, the Municipality of Clarington, Community Development Council Durham, Oak Ridges Hospice, The Robert McLaughlin Gallery and Volunteer Durham are also listed.
Attendance does not require a fee. Prospective volunteers can use the fair to ask about schedules, training, age requirements, screening and the types of work available before applying to an organization.
The organizers’ participant list may change before the event, so residents planning to attend can check the official fair page for the latest information.
