Colourful downtown Bowmanville mural project with the headline Bowmanville Mural Project Seeks Community Support

A new Bowmanville downtown mural is taking shape at an eastern entrance to the historic core as artist Chad Tyson seeks community help with the project’s costs.

Tyson told Durham Post that he and his daughter had spent about a month working on the mural. He described the project as a self-funded effort intended to create a welcoming landmark and strengthen local pride.

Campaign seeks $2,400 for project costs

A public fundraising campaign set a $2,400 goal and showed $1,585 raised when Durham Post published its report on Monday, September 14. Campaign totals can change as new contributions arrive.

Tyson said the requested support would offset his time, exterior masonry primer and paint, specialized spray paint, protective coatings, preparation materials, equipment and travel costs.

The artist said he began the work without waiting for a grant or formal funding cycle. The campaign presents donations as reimbursement for expenses and labour already committed to the community art project.

Public art at a downtown gateway

The mural is positioned to be seen by people travelling east into Bowmanville’s historic downtown. Its location gives the work a gateway role for residents, visitors and nearby businesses.

Donations are optional, and the campaign is organized by the artist rather than a municipal funding program. People considering a contribution should review the current campaign page directly for its latest total, organizer information and terms.
