An Oshawa counterfeit cash investigation has led to charges after police allege two fake $100 bills were used during a taxi trip and a convenience-store purchase.

Durham Regional Police said the incident happened on February 22, 2026. A man allegedly hired a taxi in Oshawa and asked to be taken to a local convenience store.

Two counterfeit bills allegedly used

Police allege the passenger went into the store and used a counterfeit $100 bill to make a purchase. He later returned to the same taxi and allegedly paid the fare with a second counterfeit $100 bill.

The DRPS Financial Crimes Unit investigated the transactions. Police did not identify the convenience store, taxi company or items allegedly purchased, and did not disclose the amount of genuine change provided in either transaction.

Investigators located and arrested a suspect without incident on September 29.

Dwain Glover, 43, of Oshawa is charged with two counts of fraud under $5,000 and two counts of uttering counterfeit money. Police said he was held for a bail hearing. The charges are allegations and have not been proven in court.

Separate from other Durham counterfeit case

The taxi and convenience-store allegations form a separate investigation from another Durham police release involving merchandise bought with counterfeit money and returned at other stores.

Police continue to seek information about the Oshawa counterfeit cash case. Anonymous tips may be submitted to Durham Regional Crime Stoppers.
