The Oshawa Generals surrendered a three-goal lead before falling 5-4 in overtime to the Kingston Frontenacs on Friday, October 16, at Slush Puppie Place.

Nolan Snyder scored the overtime winner on a two-on-one rush, ending a game in which Oshawa led 3-0 early in the second period. Oshawa had entered the contest looking to build on its 5-1 win over Windsor.

O’Donnell and Pape build an early lead

According to the Generals’ recap, distributed by OurSports Central, Aiden O’Donnell opened the scoring less than two minutes into the first period. Mark Pape found him on an odd-man rush after Oshawa forced a turnover and moved quickly through the neutral zone.

Pape then scored himself after combining again with O’Donnell. The pair’s work gave the Generals a 2-0 advantage at the first intermission.

Oshawa extended that lead early in the second. Jackson Marthaler sent a shot towards goal, O’Donnell got a touch on it and Pape finished the rebound for his second goal of the night.

Kingston answers before the late finish

The Frontenacs responded with three consecutive goals. Their comeback began only about 20 seconds after Oshawa had gone ahead 3-0, according to the Generals’ account.

Snyder’s breakaway goal while Oshawa was on a power play pulled Kingston level. The Generals restored their lead before the end of the period, however, when Tyler Hinde finished a passing sequence involving Caden Taylor and Onni Kalto. Oshawa entered the third ahead 4-3.

Cole Zurawski tied the game again just beyond the midway point of the third period, taking a feed from Tomas Pobezal after a turnover along the boards. Both goaltenders then helped keep the score even: Matthew Humphries faced Kingston chances, while Royden Smith made a sequence of late saves at the other end.

The deadlock carried into overtime, where Snyder scored his second goal of the game. Kingston’s own release confirms the 5-4 result and says the victory extended its winning streak to four games.

Ottawa is next for the Oshawa Generals

Humphries was making his fourth start of the season for Oshawa. The Generals’ next scheduled stop is Ottawa on Saturday, October 17, with a 7 p.m. puck drop against the 67’s.

The Oshawa recap’s opening sentence incorrectly calls the Kingston trip a Sunday game. The publication date, Kingston’s separately issued release and Daily Durham’s report identify the completed matchup as Friday night; this report uses October 16 rather than repeating that inconsistent weekday.
