Scugog Strategic Plan Shows Progress on Five Priorities

Municipal planning room with the headline Scugog Strategic Plan Shows Progress on Five Priorities

The latest Scugog strategic plan update says the township has advanced work across all five of its priority areas, while acknowledging that several long-term projects still require continued advocacy, partnerships and funding.

A progress report presented to council on September 14 reviewed the municipality’s 2023–2026 plan. Its five strategic directions are infrastructure, sustainability, economic development and tourism, the natural environment, and building a complete community.

Together, those directions contain 22 objectives intended to guide municipal decisions and investments through the council term.

Infrastructure remains a central priority

The Township of Scugog said public consultation conducted when the plan was developed consistently identified infrastructure as one of residents’ highest priorities.

Municipal work described in the update includes roads, bridges, public buildings, parks, recreation amenities, waterfront infrastructure and long-term asset management. The report also points to improvements in financial planning and asset-management practices as part of strengthening the township’s long-term organizational sustainability.

Other areas highlighted by the township include technology modernization, cybersecurity investments, customer service, public engagement, accessibility and digital services.

The municipality said the work is intended to support reliable services while helping Scugog respond to growth, protect local environmental assets and improve connections across the community.

Some objectives remain in progress

The township did not characterize the plan as complete. Its release says several long-term priorities remain underway through funding applications, outside partnerships, advocacy and ongoing municipal programs.

That distinction is important because a strategic-plan update reports progress against broad objectives; it is not the same as announcing that every individual project has been delivered.

Chief Administrative Officer Warren Mar said strategic planning helps keep council decisions and investments focused on residents’ priorities. Mayor Wilma Wotten said the update shows progress while also underscoring that work on the priorities must continue.

Residents who want to examine the detailed accomplishments and status of individual objectives can review the full progress report linked from the township’s strategic-plan webpage.

The current plan covers 2023 through 2026. The update provides a year-end reference point for residents assessing how the municipality has acted on the goals set earlier in the council term.
