Whitby tax convictions account for five cases and $17,100 in fines in a provincial enforcement bulletin released October 19.

The Ministry of Finance’s update lists 42 individuals and businesses convicted under Ontario tax statutes. The five cases sentenced in Whitby all involve false statements in applications for land-transfer-tax refunds.

Tenzin Gyurmey, Hetal Tanmay Thakkar and Sailujun Balachandran each received a $4,000 fine on July 15, 2026. Damion Braham and Sejla Abdic were each fined $2,550 on June 10.

Those are the court locations and sentencing dates recorded in the bulletin. They do not establish that every person lived in Whitby or that each property transaction occurred there.

The newly released bulletin reports earlier court outcomes; it does not describe five convictions handed down this week. The combined amount is the sum of the listed fines, not a stated total of unpaid taxes.

Durham Post reported the local cases October 20. The provincial bulletin provides the underlying names, offences, court locations and penalties.
