A new Athol Street closure will affect through traffic in downtown Oshawa from October 21 to October 30 as crews erect a tower crane at 39 Athol Street West.
The City of Oshawa published the revised work notice on October 19. It says the road will reopen on weekends, distinguishing the new arrangement from a continuous ten-day shutdown.
Access to Michael Starr building maintained
The affected section is between Centre Street and Simcoe Street. A hard closure will be positioned in front of 39 Athol Street, while full access to the Michael Starr building will remain available.
Emergency vehicles will not have through access while the closure is in place. The City says road-closure and detour signs will be posted in accordance with provincial standards.
New work period follows earlier daytime closures
This is a materially changed schedule from the previously announced Athol Street closure on October 15, 16, 19 and 20, when a mobile crane was scheduled to lift materials during specified daytime hours.
The new notice concerns tower crane erection and extends the affected work period through October 30. It does not supply daily closure hours, so the earlier 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. timetable should not be assumed to apply to the new phase.
Drivers should use the posted detour and note the weekend reopening when planning trips through the area.
